Methods were devised for the rapid repair of damaged cables. Various devices for laying cable above the normal ground level and dispensing cable from aircraft and vehicles were fabricated. Methods for cable laying and a cable rewinding machine was manufactured.

Also constructed were an instrumented 30ft/40ft pneumatically erectable mast, a trailer-mounted 70ft pneumatic mast, and lightweight steel and fibreglass masts 27ft to 110 ft in length.

SRDE manufactured C.F.R.P.tubes for antenna support structures. A taut wire transducer was used to measure the changes in the profile of a 2 metre diameter parabolic reflector. With this device, changes of 0.05 mm were identified and a remote reading device permitted several centimetres of variation to be accurately recorded as the antenna pointing was varied from zenith to horizon.
